SoundCloud Hopes Users Meet Them Halfway With New, Mid-Priced Tier

SoundCloud unveiled a third tier on Tuesday that it hopes will attract users of its free service who, though content with what’s on the menu, are tired of the interruptions. Called SoundCloud Go, the new subscription essentially takes the Berlin streamer’s ad-supported platform offline and nixes the ads for $4.99 per month. The move “marks a music industry first,” according to the company.

Spotify Acquires UK Startup Sonalytic To Help Improve Publishing Data

Spotify has acquired British-born audio detection technology company Sonalytic for an undisclosed fee – and it’s going to use the startup to launch new products. Sonalytic is less than a year old, after being founded in April last year.

The company has built patent-protected technology which claims to “identify individual songs, mixed content and short audio clips with unparalleled robustness and speed”.

Run the Jewels Announce ‘Stay Gold’ IPA, Keep Reppin’ Bernie Sanders on ‘Daily Show’

Run the Jewels had a very simple explanation for how, as Trevor Noah termed it, they stay “woke” and keep it “real hip-hop” during their appearance Tuesday night on The Daily Show: weed, “lots of it.” But, in keeping with Killer Mike and El-P‘s thoughtful indulgence, they also had a pretty deep explanation for how they manage to keep their message tight while also keeping their eyes open.

SXSW May Send International Artists to Immigration for Playing Unofficial Shows

It has been revealed that South by Southwest hopes to stop non-sanctioned performances, which may affect a lot of the music industry’s top talent. If SXSW finds out an international artist is playing a show that’s not part of the festival proper, they may take action.
